Welcome to issue 13 (2019) of the Historical Diving Society Newsletter. 7 November 2019

AGM notification

With the latest issue of HDT is the notice for the society’s AGM, which was to be held at the Diving Museum on the 7th December.  Unfortunately, several events outside of the Board’s control mean that the meeting will have to be delayed.  Society members will be advised of the new date in the near future.

Issue 69 is in the post and combines, as usual, historical research with society news.  It’s a great read!

Awards and Trophies for 2019

The following awards were made at this year’s annual dinner, which was held in the Holiday Inn, Sutton following another great conference, this year hosted by Subsea7.

The Reg Vallintine and Dr. Art Bachrach awards were both presented to Nigel Phillips in recognition of his recently published 2-volume work Diving and Underwater Technology 1495-1830, the product of over 40 year’s research.  As Nigel commented in his acceptance speech, “Like London buses, you wait 40 years for an award then two come along at once!”

The HDS award went to Peter Dick for his work as editor of HDT and the Journal, an award long overdue in the opinion of those present.

The Father Graham Hullett award was presented to Jenny Logan in recognition of her unfailing assistance and support in so many areas at society events, especially at the conference.

The Frank Oschman award went to Joe Budd and recognised his work in sorting and repairing items from the Bob Campbell bequest.

The Nautiek Trophy was not awarded this year.
