Trevor Hampton is remembered as one of the first people to establish a diving school in the UK, qualifying his students as Menfish, Mermaids and Tadpoles. He was the first person to use an ‘Aqualung’ in UK waters and collaborated with Oscar Gugen and Peter Small to set up the British Sub Aqua Club. All this he achieved after two earlier ‘careers’ in motorcycle racing/designing and serving as a test pilot during World War 2. In all three phases of his life he excelled.
His autobiography revels an intimate sensitive style that belies his daredevil approach to life. It is a thoroughly engaging read which at time leaves you almost breathless at his audacity and derring-do.
