The Wreck of the Almiranta
Peter Earle

The dramatic story of the shipwreck in 1641 of the Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion and of the subsequent attempts to locate the wreck in order to salvage her reputedly fabulous treasure. 46 years after she sank on a coral reef north of Hispaniola, Boston sea-captain William Phips found the wreck and brought home a treasure worth £250,000. In 1978 an American team of divers located the wreck and brought up even more treasure from the stern which had been inaccessible to Phips.
