The Forgotten Shipwreck, The tragic loss of the Flag Theofano and her 19 crew in Solent waters.

The loss of the Flag Theofano in January 1990 in atrocious conditions was one of the worst modern day maritime tragedies in the Solent for generations. The vessel sank so quickly that there was not even time for the crew to send a distress signal and although it happened just 3 miles off the coast of the Isle of Wight, very few people even remember it. The Bembridge lifeboat crew (of which the author is a member) were engaged elsewhere on the fateful night of the Flag Theofano sinking and as no distress call was issued it was not until the following morning that anyone knew of the vessel’s fate. A professional diver, the author has investigated the wreck, and has been able to show what actually caused the tragedy, dispelling many misconceptions surrounding the sinking. A fascinating read.
