In 1966, Francisco ‘Pipin’ Ferreras, a native Cuban, and world champion free diver, met Audrey Mestre, a French marine biology student who had sought him out for her research. A romance bloomed immediately and when they moved to Miami Audrey took up the sport herself and quickly proceeded to break the female world record. Sadly, Audrey became his wife but sadly died in 2002 attempting another world record.
