In 1941 a cargo ship SS Politican ran aground in the Sound of Eriksay in the Outer Hebrides. What happened next is both history and local folklore for ‘The Polly’ was carryign a quarter of a million bottles of whisky. To the people of the Hebrides in the straitened times of the war, this was a welcome gift.
