n October 1970, the author was a member of the crew of the Deep Quest submersible which was designed to allow extended close range observation at depths beyond 4,000 feet. He describes a day-long research dive to the ocean floor detailing the structure of the vessel, its launching, descent and probe, and its ascent and recovery.
