Our anxious wait to discover if our bid for Heritage Fund funding for the redevelopment of the Diving Museum galleries finally ended. In July we received the fantastic news that our bid to The National Lottery Heritage Fund was successful!
Mike O’Meara, our Chairman expressed our thanks: “We are extremely grateful to the Heritage Fund. It is a positive endorsement of our plans for new displays and activities that allow the Museum to take its place as the UK’s leading museum exploring the history of diving.”
It has been a long journey over several years and the success is testament to the hard work and dedication of our Board, our members, consultants and volunteers. After the excellent work to restore and repair the building and make it wheelchair accessible (made possible by funding from English Heritage and the Arts Council England), this award means that we can now progress on the exciting plans for the galleries.
“It’s been an amazing roller-coaster ride to get this far,” says our Museum Director, Kevin Casey. “But, we can’t stop here – we need to raise the rest of the match funding! “

The HDS Trustees have been trawling through their contacts for people and companies that might make a major donation, and approaches have been made. However, we now need to turn to our HDS members, fellow divers and diving enthusiasts and ask, ‘Can you help, please?’.
We appreciate that times are tough for many, but your contribution to this appeal will make a big difference.
