We know more about the surface of Mars than we do about the ocean floor. Very few people have travelled there and seen the hidden face of our planet. Jon Copley is one of them.
A pioneering research marine biologist, he is Britain’s first ‘bathynaut’ who went on the world’s first minisub dive to the world’s deepest hydrothermal vents (5km down to the ocean floor). He also participated in the BBCs Blue Planet 2 series as a science adviser, diving to 1 km deep in the Antarctic in a mini submarine.
He has led expeditions discovering new species – the stuff of dreams for any modern day explorer. Most of us are never likely to visit this hidden face of our planet. Jon Copley’s talk will take you there and introduce you to the extraordinary creatures that live there in the most alien of environments – a journey to another world.
As an award-winning communicator, writer and educator, his talk will be unmissable.
Not only will you have an opportunity to meet our first bathynaut, but you will also be able to purchase a signed copy of his book Ask an Ocean Explorer (published February 2019).
