THE
INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL
OF DIVING HISTORY |
In
April 2005, The Historical Diving Society published the first
issue of a prestigious new journal under the above title. The
journal will provide a much needed outlet for the many historians
and researchers now working in this field, and is expected to
become the focal point for anyone with an interest in the subject |

Volume
one (number 1) contains the following papers: The development
of the One-Atmosphere Suit by Michael Borrrow and Michael Humphries,
relating in particular to the revival of the JIM suit and its
subsequent evolution. The salvage by William Phips of the Spanish
galleon Concepción by Nigel Phillips, which includes much
new material related to the diving and divers derived from unpublished
contemporary papers, and the use of divers and the diving bell
in nineteenth century England for education and entertainment
purposes by Michael Fardell. |

Volume two (number 1) contains the following: Ancient Bell
Diving Seminar in Bergen, by Vidar Fondevik. Early Bell Diving
in Sweden, by Lars Gustafsson. Early Bell Diving in Denmark.
An Admiral's request for the construction of a bell diving system,
by Cdr V Theill RDN (ret). Beyond Bells - Halley's Diving Helmet,
by Dr Joe Bauer. Charles Spalding's Diving Bells, by Dr John
Bevan and The Tools and Instruments used by early salvage divers,
by Nigel Phillips

journal is issued free to members of the Historical Diving Society.
Copies may be purchased for:

Contributions are invited on any aspect of diving
history. Articles must be fully referenced and are subject to
