The Historical Diving Society

THE INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL
OF DIVING HISTORY

In April 2005, The Historical Diving Society published the first issue of a prestigious new journal under the above title. The journal will provide a much needed outlet for the many historians and researchers now working in this field, and is expected to become the focal point for anyone with an interest in the subject

Vol 1 # 1

Volume one (number 1) contains the following papers: The development of the One-Atmosphere Suit by Michael Borrrow and Michael Humphries, relating in particular to the revival of the JIM suit and its subsequent evolution. The salvage by William Phips of the Spanish galleon Concepción by Nigel Phillips, which includes much new material related to the diving and divers derived from unpublished contemporary papers, and the use of divers and the diving bell in nineteenth century England for education and entertainment purposes by Michael Fardell.

Vol 2 #1

Volume two (number 1) contains the following: Ancient Bell Diving Seminar in Bergen, by Vidar Fondevik. Early Bell Diving in Sweden, by Lars Gustafsson. Early Bell Diving in Denmark. An Admiral's request for the construction of a bell diving system, by Cdr V Theill RDN (ret). Beyond Bells - Halley's Diving Helmet, by Dr Joe Bauer. Charles Spalding's Diving Bells, by Dr John Bevan and The Tools and Instruments used by early salvage divers, by Nigel Phillips
