UNDERWATER 2018, a contemporary art exhibition with an underwater theme.

Underwater 2018 is an exhibition of underwater-inspired multi-media contemporary art featuring local artists. It is ‘open’ to anyone to apply. The work featured in the final exhibition will be chosen by a panel including professional artists.

A prize will be awarded for one piece of work as judged to be ‘best in show’ by the panel. This will be announced at the private view on Friday 25th May. Two other prizes, one for adult and another for under 14 years old, will be voted for by the museum visitors over the weekend and awarded on Monday 28th.

Where the artist has indicated that their work is for sale, it can be purchased by museum visitors and collected from the Diving Museum at 4pm on Monday 28th  May 2018 (between 4pm and 6pm).

Work can be in any medium, including sculpture/3D Assemblage/ Audio /Projection / Film. We would particularly welcome work in response to a particular museum artefact. This is an unusual and limited exhibition space and artwork will be positioned among the diving exhibits. It is suggested that if possible artists visit the museum beforehand to look at the space. As it’s a Listed Building in most instances work cannot be fixed to the walls.

Private viewing: All entrants will be invited to the private view on the evening of Friday 25th May from 7pm to 8.30pm. Refreshments will be provided.

Submission Information: To submit up to two pieces of work for consideration for the Underwater 2017 exhibition please provide the application information* shown below and email to: [email protected]  Application forms can also be collected from The Diving Museum, Stokes Bay Road, PO12 2QU

Submissions can also be made via post to 24 Swanage Road, Lee-on-the-Solent, Hants, PO13 9JW with images on a CD, or can be handed in at the Diving Museum, clearly labelled ‘Underwater’. We cannot return CDs but they can be collected at the Museum during the Private view and exhibition. Please do not submit actual pieces of work.

Submission Cost: Entry costs £5 per person (for up to 2 artworks). Entry payment can be made online at www.thehds.com (Select ‘Shop’ then “Conference and Events’)

Closing Date for submissions: The closing date for submissions is Sunday 13th May 2018. Successful applicants will be contacted within 1 week of this date with further exhibition information.
