HDS Eastern Members - Get together
13th May 2006

Report by Kim Langridge

From left to right: Gary Wallace-Potter (talking Heinke – what else!), Brian Collett (the one leaning over), James Vaughton, Lee Evans and Mike Sharland.

Saturday 13th May saw local HDS members from across the Eastern counties meeting at the St Albans BSAC clubhouse for the first time. It was billed as an opportunity to meet new and old friends, have some lunch, look at some diving kit and talk diving (what else!).

On display we had a total of five helmets: two Heinkes (a 12 bolt & a 3 bolt) and three Russian (a 12 bolt and 2 x 3 bolts) as well as knives, boots, weights, different comms equipment, books, the HDS display and a Russian 12 bolt suit big enough to fit a bear!

Brian Collett also bought along some of his early scuba kit (including an early cine housing that he made) and a working model of a Siebe pump that he has built from scratch. It was also particularly good to meet one of our newest members, Sarah Jones from Hemel Hempstead.

After a relaxed lunch we were joined by a number of members from St Albans BSAC branch who enjoyed the opportunity of being able to see all the different types of equipment - so much so that we’ve been invited back to do a talk and possible even a ‘try dive’ in their outside pool.

The afternoon was concluded by a raffle that was won by Lee Evans and John Buxton (each getting a bottle of wine) for completing a questionnaire sent to local members and the day was duly declared a great success.
