Working Equipment Group on TV

The Working Equipment Group of the HDS has featured in several television programmes. Some of the most recent are:

  • The Historical Diving Society made a major contribution to an episode of the new Channel 4 series Scrapheap, which featured HDS members John Bevan and Harvey Porrett, and TV personality Robert Llewellyn (the robot from Red Dwarf). The programme consisted of a challenge between two teams of "engineers" who had to build a diving system each, out of scrap metals found in a scrap yard. They then had to dive their systems to 20 feet to recover gold bars from treasure chests discovered at the bottom of the London Aquarium! (1 hour, screened on 27 September 1998)

  • An appearance in a BBC trailer for the Portsmouth Festival of the Sea (10 Jul 1998)

  • Contributions at Stoney Cove to the corporate video for Siebe plc

  • Central TV made a programme featuring our rally at Stoney Cove in Leicestershire, shown in the Midlands and London (9 June 1998)

  • Central TV also featured our rally at Ironbridge in Shropshire

  • The BBC's prestigious Blue Peter (11 minutes)

  • Channel 4's Collectors Lot (5 minute segment)

  • Eco Nova Corporation of Canada as part of a series to be shown on the Discovery Channel (5 minute segment)
