What is it?

The HDS Divers Index is a name index of divers, diving tenders, linesmen, employees of diving companies, contractors and associated trades.

Who does it cover?

Anyone who was involved in underwater engineering work - for example, on shipwrecks, salvage, tunnel construction, dockyards, railway bridges, as well as river, port and harbour work. It also covers military divers such as Sappers and Royal Navy divers.

How can I get involved?
  • Search for details about a historical diver by name, time period, or job they worked on

  • Obtain information about birth, marriage, death, residence, training and apprenticeship, details of salvage or other projects worked on, military service, injuries or fatality

  • Add your Diving Ancestor to the database so that further details can be supplied to you as more information is acquired - the HDS is researching all the divers it can
